I’ve gotten to play a lot of roles in my life, each delightful adventures ranging from behind the curtain to in front of it (okay, when I was literally in front of the curtain and on stage, it wasn’t that delightful). But the role I keep coming back to time and again, enjoying every moment of it and hoping to try it again and again, is the one where incredibly talented and empowered women ask me to make something pretty for their already pretty businesses and give me complete creative freedom to dream up whatever goodies I desire.
Like. If that was a job description in highschool, maybe choosing a major wouldn’t have felt so hard. Sign me up for more of that.
Stephanie is no exception. In fact, she’s probably the most chill and easy going client I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. She’s highly specific in what she wants/needs, and anything that doesn’t fall into that category is fair game for me to play with. She even lets me edit things, which if you know my background in words, you understand how giddy that makes me.
If you ask a designer if they’d rather brand someone from scratch or pick up where someone else left off, nine times out of ten you’ll find that designers won’t even use someone else’s original branding. It’s difficult to match someone else’s design style, but beyond that, I think it’s also a pride thing. No one wants to be confined to someone else’s rules.
But Stephanie’s branding is breath-taking, and it was my absolute honor to pick up where her previous designer left off. I studied her printed pieces thoroughly and matched them as best I could, while staying true to my own techniques and style. Stephanie has done well in choosing people to work with who absolutely love what she loves, because every draft I’ve shown her has met with a resounding yes.
And let me be clear. I’ve seen these labels in person (or at least the version I printed while designing them), and whoever is on Stephanie’s photography team needs a gold metal. Stephanie doesn’t just create adorable and beautifully crafted heirloom dolls & blankets. She creates an atmosphere, a cozy feeling that makes you want to curl up with a good book and a sleepy baby and dream up a better tomorrow.
To be able to play a part of a storyline like that, I’m not only tickled pink but also incredibly excited to see what else Stephanie has up her sleeve. I can only hope I get to be taken along for the ride without being tricked into having another child simply so they can snuggle one of these adorable little bunnies.
